Sounds like a bad switch.  Also, you may have bad illumination bulbs
in the instrument cluster.

You can try lubricating the moving assemblies with white lithium grease.

This is a 4K series "feature".  It's supposed to work that way.  If you
don't want the cold air coming in the center vents, close it.

Yes, that's a "feature" of the 4K series too.

The whole vent assembly can be pulled out.  First (carefuly) pull out
the vent vanes, then you can pull out the vent frame which contains
the shutter.  You can get an appropriate foam material from Home Depot
or somesuch to repair it.
