i got this email from a friend.
first of all, it seems like a dealer can make you sign
anything like this, but i could be wrong.
secondly, are snow chains incompatible with a new golf?
are spiders the only answer?

hey rocky,
for some reason melissa thought you'd have some thoughts on the
following question. i just bought a new vw golf, and the dealer
made me sign an agreement that i would not put snowchains on
the car (or it will void the warranty). it says to refer to
the owner's manual about other types of traction devices, but
the manual only mentions snow tires. i am trying to figure out
if i can drive my car to the snow next weekend. do you know
anything about alternate types of traction devices? or is my
housemate on crack? or is it possible/practical to rent snow
tires?
thanks!
Claudia
