semi-related: snow spiders

Rocky--it would not surprise me in the least that one can't run chains
on a new VeeDub golf. Our recently acquired 1994 Volvo 850 turbo wagon
will definitely not be a California snow car due to our chain laws. With
the stock 16" wheels there is zero clearance for chains. There is so
little clearance on this car that just upsizing from 50 series
(205/50/16) to 55 series (which is common for a smoother ride...these
cars ride harsh) results in a rub. The only way to run chains (and I
mean cable chains) on this car is to get a set of 15" wheels with winter
tires (which, unless you're a snow junkie like you, us coastal dwellers
don't normally do).

The bright side, those spiders look pretty easy to install/remove so if
ya gotta use 'em they make themselves somewhat more worth the price.
