OIl is normal, particularly with the turbo cars. The car would be a
laggard (I think) with a dead turbo, but you can check out it's condition
by checking Scott Mockry's excellent website sjmautotechnik.com (check
vendor list at the audifans website to be certain). Be certain it's your
turbo that's whining. My pilot bearing (and others throwout bearings) in
the clutch region started it's failure warning by whining. If the noise
is coming from the bellhousing area (rear of the engine compartment),
it's probably the Pilot or TO bearing. BTW the sound was NOT speed
dependent, and depending upon which bearing is failing, it MAY or may not
be speed dependent in it's noise, and it may or may not go away when you
depress the clutch pedal.
