Front suspension 'clunck' when steering at full lock

I've mentioned this before on the list. It's almost definitely the ball
joint bolts that hold the ball joint to the control arm. I had this noise
for nearly 4 months before I figured it out, because in my mind those bolts
just hold the joint from sliding in and out, no clunking possible. Though
my mechanic in VT mentioned this noise happened on his 4ktq rally rig and he
eventually had failures occurring mid race, so he welded the ball joints in
the control arms. I went under the car and cranked on those two bolts per
side to 60-70 ft/lbs, never had the problem again.

I had the noise, got the car aligned (bolts tightened to Bentley spec),
noise went away, then two months later it came back, and finally took 4
months to crank those puppies down hard, no noises.

Cheers!
