ISV - maybe clogged/dirty, trying cleaning (easy to do, use carb cleaner
after removal, couple of hose clamps and an electrical connector. While
at it put a couple of drops of DeOxit or Stabilant on the connector,
replace) then try out the car again. Could do the cleaning right in the
driveway of the seller. Could make or break the deal. If this doesn't
work, try pulling codes, otherwise within my limited experience I'm
stumped.

If you aren't sure, check this out with someone whom knows engine sounds
like piston slap, bearings etc. Though the bottom end of these cars is
supposed to be legendarily strong, no sense buying a potential bottom end
rebuild unless you intended to do that anyway.
