On current Audis the lock pin goes completely flush into the door so it
cannot be pulled by hand when locked, but there is a separate unlock
button on the door (which unlocks all doors, the trunk and fuel filler).
Pulling on the inside door open lever once will also unlock that door,
and pulling the lever a second time will open the door.
Don't know if you tried pulling the door open lever on the BMW but perhaps
it also unlocks the door?
