Charlie Springs??

I have them, per agreement with Charlie. Of course Charlie has them too, or
did recently.

They are rated at 1.7 Bar(conservatively) and can be easily shimmed for
more. I have one installed in 1 of 2 '87 5000CS Turbo Quattro Wagons. This
has the fuel pump wired on with Ignition (not recommended) as that is the
way the car came. This car easily aquires 1.8 Bar. the car pulls quite
well, but I note some surging and flat spots in acceleration and
driveability, nothing major, but I've become spoiled by the setup I have in
my other wagon which uses QLCC chip, 2 Bar Spring, and some other combined
mods.

Use of the QLCC chip with this spring is a bit more controlled, as the
timing maps are appropriate for the amount of boost as provided by the
spring and assisted.

Ben
'87 5000 cstq Avant - charcoal with charlie spring and Eurolights.
'87 5000 cstq Avant - pearl with QLCC chip, 2 Bar SJM spring, shrapnel knob
+ resistor mod. set for just over 2 Bar.

'85 4000 Quattro - Project GTQ - waiting for 2.3NG install.
'86 GT Coupe Automatic - I found my beater, but may fix and sell.

[Are "Charlie" springs still round & about or available from anyone?
Does anyone have a description of the physical dimensions &/or the estimated
installed boost threshold the Charlie spring provided over the stock?

FWIW, the stock waste gate spring in a UrS4 is:

Outside Coil Diameter: 1.51" or 38.5mm more or less
Inside Coil Diameter: 1.28" or 32.5mm "
Uncompressed Height: 3.27" or 83.0mm "
Wire diameter: 0.11" or 2.85mm

Said, I believe, to be good for holding @ 7 - 8 psi of boost (??) as
installed in stock form without WGFV intervention,
but I suppose YMMV depending on how many cranks of the allen bolt one's
taken to make if you've done that modification.

I'm looking for a "stronger" spring if anyone has a line on any; or a
suggest source for having a spring or two made up.

Thanks

Mike P.]
