Parting out my (91) 200 20v

Hi All,
I am sadly parting out my (91) 200 20v. I slammed into a wall a couple of
months ago. The motor (3B) and trany are in wonderful shape. The top end of
the engine is less than 5k old. The clutch is about 30k old. The trany is
165k old. All electricals are in good shape. the only things that took the
shock are the intercooler and the AC fan assembly. Please make a reasonable
offer and you can have the parts. And the ECU has the level 1 chip upgrade.
Used to put out 270 hp. I am in the bay area and for people close by , can
get in touch with me via e-mail or better still by phone 408-525-4235 and
can have a look at the engine and other parts of interest. Let me know what
you want ... I am flexible about the price.. Not VERY greedy....
Cheers
Jaggi

Heh, the 200q20v has never been available to the UK market....you should
read more thoroughly Phil's posts :)))
And I think he has a 2.2l KU engine, pretty similar to the CGT's KX, just
more compression and plain old CIS with no OXS.

Fellow listers,
I'm in the process of putting my turbo engine project together and I'd like
to have this engine with more compression ratio than stock as it's a MC1...
The block that I've recently bought is an almost brand-new factory-exchange
block so I thought that we could probably arrange for an exchange (a good
set of MC2 pistons against a new set of MC1 pistons) if the one that has
such a set of pistons wants to trade....
I think one of you had recently bought an MC block that had excessive bore
wear, was that Jim Green or am I wrong?
Please reply off-list so we don't make too much of a WOB..

Subject: re. 4kq exterior window trim
Date: Tue, 8 Jan 2002 16:23:51 -0500
[Quick question about my new (ok, new to me) 86 4kcsq:
On the outside of the car around the windows, there are some trim peices
that appear to have been black from the factory.
In some spots just below the rear door windows the black is coming off or
flaking. Next, there appears to be a corner trim piece in the lower
rear-most corner of the back door window that is completely shiny now. I
believe that all of these trim peices are aluminum, but I'm not sure.
Can anyone tell me if these corner pieces are supposed to be all black and
what the best solution (what kind of paint or preparation) is necessary to
get them looking like the "engineers" intended them to look like?
I'd imagine that this is a common problem...it kind of bugs me and makes the
car look a little ratty.
:
Elliott

This phenomenon seems to happen to both the mid-80's 4000s and 5000's. Two
approaches to fix, depending upon the look you like.
1) remove the remainder of flaking paint with steel wool + acetone and leave
as bright shiny metal.
2) clean the trim with alcohol and paint with flat black - I use Rustoleum,
Krylon.
I prefer the quiker fix #2. Just be patient and careful not to run the
paint.
I'm sure there are more "professional" approaches, but this has worked for
me quite well. Spray Paint can make some ratty trim and rocker panels look
good again. Just take the time to clean/prep.

I repeatedly hounded listers for input on suspensions, so I feel obligated
to reply in turn:
I went with Eibach Prokit Springs and Bilstein Sport struts on my CQ. I'd
ridden in a CQ with Koni Yellows and H&Rs for comparison, and the H&R/Koni
setup seemed similar, but lower and a little stiffer.
I don't want to touch off a Suspension geometry debate, so take all of this
as subjective ramblings only:
I like the Eibach/Bilstien combo on my car, but I think the Bilstien Sports
are a bit stiff. I get a fairly flat taught ride, much improved dive and
squat, a little bumpy on choppy stuff, and really bumpy on crap roads, but
tolerable. Roll reduction in my opinion is just okay. The combo is good
for spirited round-town etc., but they're just so-so on the track. Sports
are recommended for shorter spring applications (Bilstein doesn't recommend
HDs for shorter springs). But unfortunately, in heavy sweeping turns, the
stiff dampening effect of the Bilsteins doesn't make it roll any less (they
just extend and retract and slower - helping with transition, but not with
overall degree of roll) so I still get significant roll. Stiffer springs or
anti-sway bars are the only route to address roll specifically.

OK, I'm pretty sure someone here has already done this, or is doing this. =
I seem to recall that someone was bolting on a 20 valve head onto a 10v blo=

Can this be done? Was there a difference between AAN and 3B and the n/a 20=
v head (I forget the engine code for those) (okay, I looked it up, 7A)?
I'll do some archive-diving too to see what I come up with.
How about this specific question. Can a 3B block be replaced with an MC bl=

is just for curiosities sake...

Kinda off on a tangent from your email, but the U.S./N.Z. exchange rate is =
REALLY good, especially if you are interested in an EFI computer, actually =
an engine management system. http://www.link-electro.co.nz has some featur=
e-packed, applicable ECU's that cost about $1300 USD in the U.S., but in N.=
Z. cost closer to $625 USD. I just finally authorized my order for one fro=
m http://www.performancedevelopments.com. They/LinkUSA had special pricing=
for last year. Their LinkPlus, sometimes called Link2, is a relatively ne=
w product from that company, which is like 10 years old.
Wow, backpacking in NZ, that's sounds cool. Nice and simple, compared to s=
ome sort of a buying spree to take advantage of the exchange rate. As such=
, it's probably not appealling to bother with this type of thing.
An idea might be to see if there is any interest in getting some of this ty=
pe of equipment. You can tack on a reasonable fee for the trouble, and may=
be you won't have to sell a car to fund the trip.
But I heard that support for gray-market ECU's is non-existent, hence my "l=
ocal" purchase through an authorized dealer.
Incidentally, I'd like to participate in some discussions with others who h=
ave EFI or EMS systems. I'm interested in DIY wideband O2 sensors too. I =
know there are lists for that too, just wondering if any Q-listers have any=
interest.
Have a safe and fun trip!
Later,
Ken
p.s. Anton, what is the reason for wanting to move to N.Z.? I must be mis=
sing out on knowing that it is a very cool place. I should check it out. =
After researching EFI systems and poking around on that side of the world (=
on the 'net), I've wondered what the cost of living is and such there. For=
example, why are there so many EFI companies down in that part of the worl=
d? Then there's autospeed.com, and many other very good automotive enthusi=

wedish folks also astound me lately when I see some of their automotive cre=
ations. How fast do they want to go (how much cash do they have, what do t=
hey do?!)
Maybe it's the people there? I've met one person from N.Z. before, he was =
pretty cool.

If you also order the V8 bushings, brackets and longer bolts, it
will bolt right up giving a subtle increase in roll stiffness. Also add
the steering damper and really enjoy that smooth, big car feel.

ETKA says 03/89, which makes it the 89 model year. We do have a lot
of 3B engines in the UK, but they're all in S2 Coupes and Avants. All
the five-speed S2s have 3Bs. None in Type 44s.
