radio recalls....and other Bosey things

Yeah, well, as the owner of two Audis with Bose systems, I have NO desire to
have Audi fix mine. IF, and that is a big "IF" there is a recall made
shortly...within the next year or so, and I can get my V8 speakers r&r'd at
Audi's expense, then I might get it done that way.
The 94 100CS wagon has new front speakers and a new head unit (Nakamichi).
The head unit is wired from the pre-amp outputs to the rear speakers, and
the fronts are powered by the head unit's internal amplifier. The job ws
done quickly while I was in Florida, and the result isn't entirely correct.
What needs to be done is the installation of an amplifier for the front
speakers as the output isn't properly balanced.
What I intend to do is to rip out the rear Bose speakers at some point and
replace them. Next will be to install a two channel amplifer and equalizer
so that I can get proper concert sound....violins on the left and everything
else where it should be, instead of the current craze for "surround
sound"..(Ever really sat with the clarinets? Lousy experience.....)
With the V8, I guess I'll do the same thing, although I would like to
replace the head unit with a CD player, but won't unless I can find one with
red illumination that is simple in appearance and not like a beserck jukebox
from Coney Island in 1949. Failing that, I will do what I did with the 1985
Audi wagon that I had once upon a time...changed speakers and added
amplifiers using the factory head unit, and in this case, the factory
changer.
The reason that I changed the head unit in the wagon, by the way, is that
the volume control knob gave up completely while we were traveling. Along
the line, I will probably have that fixed, and either reinstall it or sell
it.
The bottom line here is to get it fixed to work to suit you, and not expect
Audi to give a rat's ass about something that they built ten years ago, in
relatively small numbers. At the rate that this "recall" is going, most of
the suspect V8's anyway, may have been burned up or crushed by the time that
the recall is actually made. In the meantime, you can either have decent
music to enjoy while you enjoy the drive, or learn to love "snap, crackle
and pop."
