All I know is, that my dealer told me that my water pump is bad, and that
while we are in there, we may as well do the timing belt too. That was the
previous service manager speaking. When I went there today to inquire about
my recall parts on the V8, and to schedule the service, the old service
manager had been replaced (permanently) with a new one, who gave the same
advice. And lo and behold - one of the service techs walked up and agreed.
The car is a '98 A6 Avant with 65K on it right now.

BTW it has the following "codes" in the odometer when I first start the car:
ln1
ln2
What do they mean? They are in the electronic mileage counter (odometer,
right?), and flash for a few moments just after starting the car, and then
the mileage pops up again.
