AUDIophiles

'Tis true. I recently replaced the fronts in my 89 90q with Polk Audio 4"
from Crutchfield. Also in my 90q the fronts are powered by the head unit
and the rears have built-in amplifiers.

I also just upgraded my head unit with a Sony ES cd player. The ES series
has 5.5v preamp outputs which work well with the rear speakers. I do,
however, have the fader set mostly to the rear to compensate for the
difference between the pre-amp out and the speaker level out(for the
fronts).

The unit I got(don't remember the model number off hand) was on sale at
Crutchfield for 199.00 usd and came with wiring harness adapter, antenna
adapter(I use the rear antenna because it is AM/FM as opposed to the front
being FM only) and factory radio removal tools.

I also sprung 29.99 for the recommended adapter (basically a speaker level
to line level converter), although I won't be using it for this car. It is a
pretty handy "universal audio adapter" that I may use to add rear speakers
to another car of mine.

HTH,
Chris Perry

<snip>

Uhhh... unless the dashes were changed for US cars, there are 4" speakers
in the front.

Tom
two type 89s and two more gone but not forgotten.
