It all depends on what "kind" of horsepower you are talking about.

If you spring and chip your 160 hp MC-1 and get it to make 200, those 40
horses *will* increase your acceleration, in fact that is why you do
this.

If you add a K&N filter (15 hp), a burbly exhaust tip (10 hp), and a two
foot pylon mounted rear spoiler (another 15 hp), *this* 40 hp increase
will not improve your acceleration, and will probably hinder it.

In neither case will your compost production be increased, as we are
talking about horseless carraiges here.  I don't know if you can "chip"
a Clydesdale to improve vegetable production.
