the clutch runs on brake fluid, fed from the brake reservoir by a cloth
covered hose (typically)

do it later... just make sure the center diff is *unlocked* in the
meantime.

Sure, it would be nice to fix it while it is exposed, but I think you
want your car back on the road now, worry aobut the diff lock later.
