Help the idle on my type 44 has gotten worse.

It all started when I started driving again after taken a year off. Bad move
I now know but I'm not made of money. The car was working great for a little
while. Then the gremlins moved in. The idle which was working fine, just up
and decided to never return to the normal, ~800 RPM. Now when I start the
car it idles at 1100, and when I start driving and come to a stop the idle
doesn't go under 1800. Today it was fluctuating between 1800 and 2000 when I
got to work. When I turn off the car, and start it back up I get to go
through the whole process again.
I took it to a shop, and they said, they had never seen this problem before
and would look in to it. After 4 weeks they reset the computer and
everything was working fine, according to them. Of course once I got into
the car nothing had changed.
If any body has ideas on how to fix this, that will make me one happy Audi
driver.
Thanks in advance,
Jason
