Brian,
I strongly recommend the chip. Do it and you will not regret it.
I also strongly recommend swapping the K26 for the K24. This makes the car
seem much better on the low end. I see 1.3-1.4 bar at or before 2000 rpm.
Note, this might not be the best setup for the racetrack but I really like
it for the street, which is what you seem to want according to your post.
Note that both of my Type 44's were swapped from K26 to K24.
I have the SJM chip in my 1986 5000cstq and a qlcc chip on order for my
1989 200q Avant. I have run my chipped ECU and the stiffer wastegate spring
in both cars at 1.8 bar using both the K26 and K24.
The 1.8 bar with the K26 is a big improvement but the 1.8 bar with a K24 is
something I truly love.
Have you tried a Google search on the audifans.com archives? See the
archives entries I list below, but there are others comparing the K26 to
