hmmm true...but wouldnt this be giving false information to the ECU as to
actual position of valves?

I agree with you for the ignition timing, but wasn't he talking about
advancing the cam timing? As long as the valves don't hit any piston, I
don't see any problem doing it, though 8° advance or retard can be quite
radical IMHO.
