S4 missing - deal killer?

When I looked at the S4 that was the subject of my
V8 v. S4 question, it was missing a low rpms. The
dealer and I thought it was electrical, as it was
raining very lightly when I opened the hood to
check out the engine compartment. He was going to
fix it before I'd buy it.

He just called to let me know that it's not just
dist. cap, plugs, and wires. The S4 has direct
ignition modules, and it may cost him a lot more
to fix it than he was planning on. He's looking
to alter the deal, asking for a few hundred more
(he's not sure what the independent shop will
charge him yet). He doesn't want to spend $1K
to fix it, as it would kill his meagre profit.

My point to him was the he was selling the car,
and he should have known more about what he was
selling. He accepted my offer.

I offered him $11K for a '93 S4 with 103K miles,
which I thought was a bargain. Is a '93 S4 in
excellent shape (with new dir.ignition coils)
still a bargain at $11.5K?

My decision points -- I was looking at spending
$7.5K for a black on black '93 V8 until I stumbled
across this bargain S4. I didn't want to spend
$11K, never mind another $500 on top of it.

Should I

a) force him to deliver the fixed car at $11K,

or

b) spend less money on the V8, which I think
    I'd prefer.

I only made the offer on the S4 because I
thought it was a killer deal.

Thank you for your input,
