Thanks to everyone who offered advice on removing the gunk underneath
my 4k badges. Two afternoons of WD-40 and some fingernail scraping
did the trick. Its not something I'd want to do on a daily basis, but
it wasn't very difficult. As per list comments, the paint underneath
the badges is now of a different consistency than the paint outside,
which has been weathering for 17 years. It was an amazing day in OH,
up into the 50s F. I washed the car after all the gunk came off. The
paint difference is less noticeable now, but still there if you look
for it.

My next trick will be replacing the belts and exhaust which are
arriving tomorrow. Somhow I think I might have been better off
working on the exhaust in this REALLY nice january weather, but fate
will have to decide that one.

At any rate, thanks again for everyones assitance.
