200 (MC-1) clutch kit...again

Hi!

The local part shop got back to me yesterday regarding the Sachs
clutch kit I was looking for for my '89 200t. I am converting to
manual, I have a MC-1 flywheel and still need a clutch.

The problem now is that I think the kit is too damn expensive. I
can't get this kit from Audi 'cos the car was never sold as a manual
in this country (South Africa).

Price quoted for the kit: $550. Followed by a 6-8 week turnaround
time for delivery from Germany.

What options do I have left?

Would it be viable for me to find used pressure and clutch plates
from the USA/UK/Europe, have them shipped over, and then rebuilt?

I don't want to use the AAR flywheel and clutch like so many locals
have done 'cos it still uses the smaller clutch disc.

What is involved in pressure plate rebuilding? Reason I ask is that
there is no point looking at doing this if it means I'm going to
cough up $550 anyway 'cos the shop says they don't do it and I need
a new clutch. :P

The only other option I see available is going to LUK and asking
them to make me a custom clutch.

Thanks.

G.
