Sorry, but VW is Audi and Audi is VW. It's like the brother you wish you never had but still do. VW isn't going after Audi with the Phaeton, it's going after the S class Mercedes. The notion is that Audi will be the sporty brand - competing against BMW (yeah for us), VW will be the luxury (competing against MB) , and Seat will be the cheap brand competing against everyone else. That's the long term plan. Now will it work? Who knows. I for one thought my Passat was every bit as nice as an A4 plus it was a tad roomier without being as big as an A6. Now, which would I rather have? A4 of course, but it came down to $$ back in 1997 when I bought it. Now let's play nice with our little brother....

I don't know if it's just me but I hate VW and I don't consider myself and
the audi's I own as cousins to the VW marqee (sp). Aside from the obvious
similarities with the 4000, Fox, Passat, A4 and the Golf and A3. Does
Audi's magnificence as a carmaker have anything to do with VW other than
them owning us. I think not. Especially now that VW is trying to out-do the
A6 with the Phaeton. What lunacy. (VW is good for the frugal minded 20
something - who wants a german made car and doesn't want to spend a lot of
money.)

And it miffs me that VW is holding the strings that have kept TDI cars from
crossing over to the US as well as the A3.

Just venting.
