Hi gang.
I just had the a/c repaired in my 85 urq. It seems to work, but its not very
cold when its on high. Also, at idle when I first start the car and turn it
on, the compressor will run constantly. If I hold the rpms up to about 3k, it
will turn on for 5 SEC, then off for 5 SEC, then on for 8 SEC, then off for 8
sec. and so on, until I don't really notice it cycling at all.
Also, there's a hissing sound that starts when I flip the switch on. I took
it to the guy who charged it and he said it sounded to him like the fan
drawing air, and he said he checked for leaks before he turned it over to me.
But the sound more or less sounds the same no matter how fast the fan is
blowing.
I can hear the thermostat clicking on and off, and I put in a new expansion
valve and o-rings. The top part of the expansion valve gets very cold, while
the bottom hose gets pretty warm. Also, a chunk of expansion valve-shaped ice
fell onto the floor yesterday.
One side of the evap is pretty cold, while the other side is "luke" cold.
Also, I installed a new heater control valve.
What else shoud I check? Any clues?
Thanks
Gary
