The _only_ difference between #2 home heating oil and #2 diesel fuel is the
tax paid on the diesel fuel.
Well... Ok, there are two "real" differences, neither of which is of any
chemical significance. The diesel fuel contains a dye so that the feds can
tell if you are running heating oil in your big rig (and therefore not
paying the taxes on the fuel - they consider that equivalent to
treason). Also diesel fuel will have a certain small amount of kerosene
blended into it during the winter months to prevent gelling of the fuel in
cold weather. This is the exact same treatment required for use of heating
oil in areas where the tank must be left outdoors in _cold_ weather.
