Audi Caravan

As many have pointed out the left is the passing lane. The fact that it
is rarely observed as such is a sad by-product of city driving,
especially during rush hour, where traffic tends to stratify according
to speed. The same exact thing happens on an interstate when traffic
gets heavy so it's easy for people to forget that the left is supposed
to be a passing lane. It's not surprising that people get conditioned
into thinking that if they are traveling a certain amount over the speed
limit they should be on the left. It isn't right, but it happens all
the time.
People traveling in a tight pack at 100 mph should be aware that
there are going to be cars going slower than them in every lane. I-94
isn't the autobahn and it isn't Audi's corporate test track. if Jacob
deserved to get a ticket for obstructing the left lane, then surely the
whole lot of Audis should have gotten big fat tickets, not only for
going way over the speed limit but for not using a safe following
distance.
David, by saying that someone makes themselves the target of road rage,
you are missing the point. Road rage is cause by drivers who've made
themselves the self-appointed gaurdians of all that is correct in the
world and aren't prepared for the eventuality that their fellow humans
on are going to make mistakes. People like your nickel flipping
friend should be looking down the road for problems that might happen,
assume the other guy is going to drive poorly and be ready to deal with
problems when they crop up. I don't mean by keeping a load of spare
change in the car, but by driving defensively. I've been in a car that
was "run off the road" and it ain't fun. It was a case of my dad was
slowing down to take a left hand exit. Just because the left is the
passing lane, doesn't mean that no one else ever has the right to be
there. The road rage driver probably thought he was in the right, but
does it matter? I don't think so. Anger leads to hate, hate leads to
the dark side.
And by the way, speaking as a person who was nearly arrested for
throwing a penny at a car, I know from experience that throwing spare
change at a moving vehicle is considered assault.
OK, I've said too much. Just don't run me off the road.
