I have an urgent problem and would appreciate some help.
A few weeks back I had the head gasket changed on my 1995 90Q just before a
trip of 2000 km (down to Mid Ohio for the ALMS) On the way home the overheat
light came on and the coolant level had dropped. I made it home by checking
regularly and topping up as necessary. There was no sign of a leak.
Once I got home I had the guy who did the head gasket take a look and he
said it was a loose hose. My thought "SLOPPY WORK, but no permanent damage".
I drive away. The car has been sitting all week because this is beautiful
motorcycle weather. Today on the way to work the overheat light came on and
the coolant level was way down again. There is coolant dripping from bottom
of engine. I am taking the car in this morning (25 minute drive to get here)
after I top up with water.
Questions:
Besides the obvious "Are you really competent to be working on these cars?"
what should I be saying to/asking this mechanic? He came lister recommended
and is apparently "the guy" in town for work on German cars. His shop is
usually full of Audis, BMW's and Porches, so somebody trusts him.
What is the possible impact of the problems I'm having? (My worry is that
the leak in internal.)
I'm leaving in an hour to take the car in, so quick feedback will be
appreciated.
