This thread must be beaten to death but, I see that fellow listers have done
this with great success.
While the 10 V seems most commmon and a few 20V's are out there -mainly in
$$$ UrQ's-
My question: (assuming its already been thought of)
Does it make sence to look into a 1.8T? While it may cost good money, they
seem to be plentiful and the tuners have many options to choose from. i
also think the resale to recoup investmnent may be higher on a newer motor.
Anyone try this or have knowledge of particular(s)?

I have the same symptom in my 87 5ktq. The vacuum pump was replaced just a
month ago, the noise was there b4 and is there now. Could it be a crack in
the EM gasket or the EM itself ? Or anything else ?

TIA

I don't think that's accurate. They may not read the parts-for-sale as
often as they read the cars-for-sale, though. However, how many folks that
paid under $2000 for a car that's almost 15 years old will pay $600 for
some wheels? They're too small for my V8 or 200q20v, and I ain't investing
in the 5ktq any more.

they fit other cars too. 45mm offset works great on a UrQ, vw eurovan,
'92-95
audi 100, etc, etc.. plus the fuchs are rare..
i sold a set for $400, that was a bargain.

Luke,
Examine the condition of the flange on the downpipe. These are fairly
light duty and once weakened by rust will not seal no matter how tight you
torque the bolts. The fix is an item called a split flange, readily
available at FLAPS... I got one at NAPA. This is a common fault on VW's.

Good point. Also, getting those flanges aligned well matters.

As far as the crimped nuts, a small sledge and a hard surface can be
used to make your own - get a bunch to experiment. hitting them too
hard makes these funny oval nuts (oval bolts are expensive and not
necessary, IMHO), not hard enough and they are still normal nuts. get
it right and they turn on, but not by hand, and stay put quite nicely.

I guess I am saying you should set your nuts on an anvil and whack them
with a hammer.

Thanks Kneale!

The number stamped on my original (with a broken plastic gear) rotor is 1
234 332 414 (R1), which is the official Bosch number. The price in Europe
is around 20 Euros tax included and the availability seems to be
"normal"....

Hope this helps someone!

How do I get the radiator out (200tq20v)? I've removed all hoses and
fasteners, I've removed the fan with shroud, the AC condenser is
removed (well, resting in front of the radiator), the whole thing is
loose and will move somewhat, but I can't figure out how to get that
d*** thing out.. It will interfere with either the fender or the
engine no matter how I try. Any good tips?

The rotor in your pump might be seized. See archives for the discussion
of this topic. The pump has a magnetic coupling between the motor and
the rotor. This magnet attracts all metal and rust particles which flow
with the coolant up to the point when the rotor seizes. I'd check if
your pump actually generates any coolant flow.

The reason it is "starred" is so that the torque wrench can be parrellel
with
2079. Which it must be to get an accurate torque reading.

odd hole because it's made to accept the 3/4" drive at several different
angles. Kind of like those famous Audi triple square bolts, eh?
