on how a helicoil works?

Taka,

Heli-coil and Coil-Sert work by drilling out the original threads and
enlarging the original hole.  That is then tapped for a new set of threads.
 The kits usually include the tap, and sometimes the appropriate drill bit.
  Then a new set of high strength threads is screwed into the enlarged and
threaded hole.

I don't know what material these are, but they are generally stronger than
than original threads.  NASA made it common practice to Heli-coil critical
fasteners in the Space-shuttle and other projects before the first launch.
