I-5 engine teardown tips - crank, block, oil filter housing

So I pretty much have the whole block torn down. Is it OK to rest the crank
on its counterweights? I thought I read somewhere about resting cranks in
some way might cause distortion.. I can't get the oil squirters out of the
block. Any tips? Should I replace 'em? Also, should I be careful w/ the
removable crankcase vent cover and water outlet tubing attached to the
block? The reason I ask is that I'd rather not replace them if there
expensive or hard to find. I think I should take 'em out before the acid
bath though, right? Last thing, anyone know where to get the huge socket
for the oil filter housing nut? I think it's around a 35mm nut...don't
remember seeing that in my tool set! Thanks everyone.
