The type 44 Audis (84-91 5000/100/200) had a GM-sourced climate control
system. It was problematic so Audi went to their own (much better) design
in the subsequent models. Also, '80s Audi power seats also had GM
componentry in it.

One more note - many of the 5K series also used Delco AC compressors. Thank
HEAVENS! When I replaced the compressor on my 5K, it cost me all of $125
from a NAPA store. Try that with a German-sourced AC part!

BTW - this was at the time when GM AC systems were acknowledged by many to be
the best AC systems in the world. Rolls-Royce also used them. Altho I hate
to disagree in public with colleague Ti, I'm not convinced that the climate
control system was all that bad.
