It will be a prime candidate for the retro-fit of a normal worm gear
steering box (probably from a 1974 300D).  The Mercedes list will be
abuzz with gleeful posts about how great it felt to "rip out all that
stupid electrical crap" and put in a nice, simple, "normal" steering box.
 I'm guessing the hydraulic systems and GM climate control on our beloved
type 44's were spoken of in similar terms to the steer by wire is today.
