automatic locks

Some car manufacturers specifically warn against locking the car doors,
except in areas in which you're concerned about security.

If you get into an accident on the road, it will just be that much more
difficult to extract you from the vehicle...and the vehicle locks won't keep
the door from opening on impact...the latch mechanism is designed for that
whether the door is locked or not.

So why would you want the car to lock automatically?

(auto door locks are a pet peeve of mine with rental cars. If I wanted the
doors locked, I'd lock 'em!)
