When I had my 200q20v's gas tank open for pump replacement and had to wait
a couple weeks to get the correct parts, the entire interior took on the
odor of fuel fumes so strong I had to drive with a couple windows open
about an inch (this was during the winter). That condition continued for
at least two weeks, and a "hint" of fuel stink persisted for a month, but
it gradually abated. Today, even if the interior heats up from the car
sitting in the sun, there's no trace of fuel fumes.
When my first 4kq's carpeting turned into a swamp because I didn't know
about cleaning out the sunroof drains, It took several summer days of
airing with the doors open to dry out and a couple of weeks to quit reeking
like a dog that ran through a ditch full of rain.
