I not only agree, but I had hung on to a few mails from a week or two
ago meaning to jump in and get all testy about this.
One described driving around with engine or oil light intermittently
coming on and off... that sort of thing.
THE OIL LIGHT IS NOT A SENDER TEST!
Sure, it might mean a bad relay, defective sender, or whatever. But if
your oil/engine light comes on, pull over and turn the car off
immediately. Do not pass go. pull over well to the side of the road,
and either call a tow truck or pull out your Bentley and tools.
The presence of healthy oil pressure indicated on a gauge may allow you
to proceed... but a lot of these cars don't have that gauge.
The presence of oil on the dipstick does not mean you have oil pressure,
either.
