RS2 Wheel/Tire Musings

Richard Hi,

There is a tendency in the driver in everybody to go for wider tyres.
I did the same on EVERY car I had up to now with the notable exception of my
Land Rovers (where I stick to the factory specified sizes) and the RS2 where
I downsized (mainly because keeping the same size would required a new set
of rims)

Offset on the RS2's wheels is 55 I think too (there is a 55 right in front
of the rim's air valve)

I was shocked to here the same about the SP8000 being the ONLY tyre that
AUDI recommends for the RS2. There is a specific mention in the owner's
manual which says that changing to new tyres should ONLY be done by your
"friendly AUDI dealer" but who could guess this was the reason.
After contacting AUDI (when I almost got killed because of a Bridgestone
S-02 having its footprint separated from the sidewall and noticing that just
before a 500 km fast driving trip) it was specifically quoted by them to
Bridgestone which has undertook investigation for this incident that ONLY
the Dunlop SP8000 was factory quoted as suitable for fitment on such a
narrow rim for its width (245/40/17) The S-02 (or any other 245 wide tyre)
requires at least a 7.5" wide rim or better still an 8" one IIRC.

Take care
Pantelis
