I had the same problem with the shifter in my 9 200TQ.  It got real loose and finally
I had a hard time getting it into gear.  The problem was the nut was loose on the
shifter lever on the trans.  Once I tightened that up it was like new. so you might
want to check that.  Great pickup on the car for $375.
