Yep the outer race comes off easy, need the press for the inner race
though.

AFAIK you have to take apart the joint.  Given how much work you have
done
already I would just replace the bearing.  The joint is not difficult to
take apart just be careful with the needle bearings.

Is that the play in the U-joint?  Could be suspect with that kind of
play.

I have a write up in the archives on my complete driveshaft teardown.  I
replaced
the u-joint with a unit designed for a Subaru!  I can't find the P/N
though.
