Stock Eurovan 2.5 compression?

You're right about the block(s). The Eurovan's 2.5's are "tall blocks"
similar to the VW 1.8 to 2.0 4 cylinder engine family of changes. I believe
all of the engines in question, i.e. the Audi/VW 5 cylinder and the VW 1.8 &
2.0 4 cylinder use the same length connecting rods, i.e. 144mm center to
center. OTOH, the 2.5 liter 95.5mm crank does fit the 2.2 liter blocks,...
well at least some of them.
I wasn't aware that there was a factory "short" deck 2.0 liter four cylinder
VW engine? If there is, do you know the model of engine code for it? or
better yet the connecting rod length? That would tell you if the factory
moved the pin in the piston, or changed the CR's.
I think, but couldn't swear to it, that all of the after market stroker
conversions (i.e. stuffing the 95.5mm stroke 4 and 5 cylinder cranks in the
original 86.4mm stroke blocks) have been made by modifying the pin positions
in, and the tops of the pistons, and not (generally) by shortening the rods.
One reason I would guess for this is it affords the "stroker" a very
valuable opportunity to save weight in the reciprocating mass assembly (the
wrist pin & piston) in light of the unavoidable SIGNIFICANT increases in
piston speed even at the same rpm, AND avoids, at least to the extent
possible, further adverse change / reduction in the rod ratio that would be
caused by shortening the stock rod length.
My guess is there is probably a whole lot more experience with this out
there in the 4 cylinder VW world. Any one know of any good VW water cooled
stroker report write ups on the + & -'s of the changes? Are these things
considered to be successful in terms of (a) power and/or (b) reliability, or
are they a never ending bucket of worms?
Initial "seat of the pants" reports I'm hearing for at least one 20v turbo
application that's actually in a car is, that while a number of things still
remain to be sorted out, the engine in the opinion of those driving the car
is making massive amounts of up front, low end grunt & push.
mlp, with all the parts & a partially assembled stroker motor in the making
(for a long, long time now.)

If the 2.5 crank would fit in the 2.2 crankcase, there would still be the
problem of the longer stroke. The pistons would come out the top of the
short 2.2 block. Unless there is a shorter rod, or a special piston w/ the
pin moved very high. There is probably a stock solution for this by
borrowing pieces (rods &/or pistons) from a short deck 2.0L 4cyl. Anyone
tried this?
