replacement antenna installation

Tried to install a replacement antenna in an 87 5ktq a couple of weeks ago =
and was stymied by the antenna connection. The replacement antenna is the p=
owered Hirschmann unit that is offered as an oem replacement. The problem i=
s that after installing the unit the antenna lead from the car is too short=
, by about 2 inches, even after taking all the slack out of the antenna cab=
le. I've looked for an extension cable but haven't had any luck so far. Has=
 anyone replaced their power antenna with one these units? I'd like to find=
 out what they did and what parts they used.

That was an incredibly frustrating afternoon. Which seems to be typical of =
any time spent with an old Audi.
