Frank:
I'll remind you of that. The RS6 compares to the M5, which has been readily
available for a coupe years now, an "old" car already (due for replacement,
and one could argue so is the '6' chassis). Audi comes out with the new
hardware, and the comparos fly. Then (as history repeats itself) the boys
"over by dere" will do something awesome again. They always do. Then (as
history repeats itself), audi will distance itself from the very same co
mparo. Little league? No Frank. History. The worst "little league" game
you reference was the intro of the S4tt stateside. You can read the "wait
till next year (and the year after that)" in these lists very own archives.

At least here, audi has come out with some heavy guns. It would appear they
learned the lesson from the A8 (which didn't fair well in the comparos with
the 5 year old 740i).

For over 10 years now, I go to various marque events with a stopwatch.
Bottom Line: The S cars don't fair well in time against the M cars. The S8
changed that a little, but 4200+ is "by the ton" in terms of what the fun
limit is.... (hey those brakes look like Big Reds, hey look at that
pad....:)

CURRENTLY, we have a 10 year veteran of ACCNA track events that comes to most
of the track events in the midwest with a M3 mit wheels/tires/SSbrakelines.
Unloads his CD's, takes just about every single "current" and/or tweeked audi
on track.... Loads his CD player and goes home. This year, he stopped
running dedicated track tires. I watch the comparo in car and from the
stands, audi has some catching up to do.

Frank, I'm an audi quattro enthusiast, you know that well. You also know
well that audi has a marketing and product problem for such enthusiasts.
Your "manual" comments unfortunately, come up short. IF you have a good
chassis and driveline design, you can accomodate *both* the niche performance
nut, AND sell the bread and butter. Who proved that? And for years...

I don't hold my breath anymore for audis "latest". I smile at the prospect
that audi is "currently" enjoying a momentary high with the RS6. If history
repeats itself, the bar has been raised high enough, that the 'next' M
offering should be interesting. After your review, I'll sure make a point to
get my RS6 ride. Currently, I drove both a stock S4tt and a 350+ tweeked
S4tt at the track hours apart last week at Mid OH. Neither excited me at all
(well my student almost got 'bitten" trying to ride the curb out of 1, that
was "exciting":). I got a wild ride in an S8 which was exciting, more to
those following the monster I'm sure. Pushed like a pig, but didn't let go.

Come now Scott, you have to compare what is currently driveable to what
is currently driveable. Trying to add what it coming down the pike to
the list is off base.

It smacks of the little league team that has lost in the playoffs... "Oh
yeah, you'll see. Wait 'till next year (until the NEW M5 is released)!"
Boo-frickin'-hoo, yer breakin my heart.
