I recieved this from a lister a while back when there was a thread
discussing whether or not Audi was supporting the Abt DTM effort, (they
don't as supported by an article in EC and other sources). This was the
first I had heard of the BMW connection, but have since found the same
info on other sites. Here's one:

Since Abt is mainly known as an Audi tuner, perhaps they downplay the
engine's origin. I couldn't find anything on the Abt site stating that
the engine was BMW, but the site never actually says the engine is from
Audi either.

Also, the TTs are only in DTM by special ruling. Technically, they are
too short, and they will only be allowed until Audi actually produces its
planned 2-door coupe, since technically the TT is a roadster. I think
this is supposed to be in 2003 ('04 model year?)

Hi,

Another reason Audi will be reluctant to support the
DTM TT is that it uses a 4.4 litre BMW V8!!
