I believe most states have what is called a basic speed law which means if
your going too fast for conditions your speeding even if your traveling 15
mph on an interstate Highway covered in snow and ice. One of the signs your
going too fast for conditions is accidents or sliding off the road. If you
go into court and say your were on a mountain road (I'm not sure but I
thought this happened in the mountains) and you were going too fast to see a
road closed sign and had an accident and got a ticket most judges will not
have a lot of sympathy... The occasional one will if your lucky feel sorry
for you. Did you maybe miss another sign well before the one right by the
accident scene?

Your best chance will be to try and strike a deal with the prosecutor
continue for dismissal or something that won't effect your insurance.
Sometimes in Minnesota they will plead you to public nuisance on a roadway
so it doesn't affect your driving record.
