> ID PartNum Description Price Buy
> 1 2003 crank oil seal installer 126.00 0

a piece of PVC pipe an inch or two long works fine.

> 2 2003-1 crank oil seal sleeve 97.50 0
> 3 2026 pilot bearing installer 44.80 0

tap lightly with a bit of wood held straight

> 4 2079 wrench ext for vib damper 127.90 1

unnecessary, just use a 1/2" breaker bar and a 4-5 foot chunk of 3/4"
black pipe.

> 5 2080A oil seal installer sleeve 20.65 0

for the rear crank seal maybe? Mine came with one, Brenda's gasket kit
did not. In my rebuild photos you see me using a handy dandy bit of
sheet teflon to do the job.

> 6 2083 head gskt align pins 0

I see no need

> 7 2084 vib damper locking tool 87.60 1

Very handy, can be fabbed, a few have done it, you might also borrow
one. Those who own them don't use them very ofen...

> 8 2085 frnt cam oil seal puller 140.80 0
> 9 2086 oil seal puller 49.50 0

not needed - you're taking the metal parts apart, the seals are simple
then.

> 10 3034 idler pulley puller 66.80 1

not needed, can be pulled gently using whatever combination screwdrivers
and duct tape you favor.

> 11 10-202 pilot bearing puller 38.90 0

very nice to have, or borrow.

> 12 10-203 frnt cam oil seal installer 125.50 0

PVC again, 1 1/4" this time I think.

> 13 10-204 valve guide seal installer 0

must have, but they are just little plastic thingies, i was handed
several with my seals when I did them.

> 14 10-218 valve spring seat remover 0
> 15 US 1020 valve compressor 0

handy tools - well, the compressor, anyway. i think I used a needlenose
pliers easily to remove the seats. The compressor was essential - might
be possible to fab one up though. (or borrow like I did)

> 16 US 1030 straight edge 25.00 1

the machine shop will have one... and I think you will be sending your
head and perhaps block to them at some point?

> 17 vw 207c piston pin puller/installer 55.70 1

Don't remember using one, must have used pliers or snap ring tools -
play with those things in a bag, though. if it weren;t for my having a
piston or two kicing around, Brendan's engine would have had to wait a
week for new lock ring things. I found the missing one a few weeks
later on a high shelf...

> 18 vw 387 dial gauge holder 95.90 0

again, machine shop use.

> 19 vw 544 cam gear puller 46.50 0

nah. they slide right off, just don't lose the woodruff key.

You will want some ring tools - a groove cleaner is nice, and a ring
compressor will let you put the pistons back in the block.

Buy, borrow, or build an engine stand.
