"Bosch rebuild"

I'm a little surprised that most people don't have a good local
rebuild shop. I've dealt with the same shop for over 30 years in
Halifax (Rand Auto Electric) and never had a bad experience with
starters and alternators. What you take in is an old, rusty, dirty,
non-functioning part and what you get back looks brand new. Case is
sandblasted, parts that had paint are repainted and any defunct
internals are replaced with new. Most recent case was my Bosch 115 amp
alt. that required new stator, armature, bearings front and back. This
all for the lofty sum of $165+tax in Canabucks. So-called reman from a
local distributor was $230+tax. With this shop you know what has been
replaced. If you request the parts replaced they happily hand them to
you in a plastic bag. Most of the local dealers (Audi included) send
these items to be rebuilt at this shop and then charge double to John
Q. The only drawback is you have to wait a day or two for the work to
be done so if you're in a big hurry you pay the extra for
off-the-shelf. Seems a lot simpler than getting into shipping the core
to someplace else on the planet and getting a replacement that comes
with no documentation of repairs. As an added benefit, your hard
earned cashola stays in the hands of locals and just may be returned
to you for work done in some other venture.

JMO, YMMV, etc.
Best regards,
Geo
