proportional valve: how important to have working one?

I didn't change the rubber lines, so that might be an
idea. I took a good look at them and they seemed fine
(a visual check really doesn't matter though). I took
the calipers apart to make sure that the piston was
able to move freely and the sliders and greased. I
think that my next step will be to bypass the ABS or
disconect the electronics. I removed the fuse on the
ABS and that didn't change anything, so I am leaning
towards bypassing the ABS pump.
