This is what I did on my 85 CQ as well when I saw the Audi/Bosch prices...I
used my (now forever gone) 84 CGT 5E's coil and a new CGT cap and wires...I
have Beru silicon wires and they work just perfect for twice as cheap if
not even more! :-) I also used the metal ground shield around the
distributor cap though I don't know if it's that useful or not...it's funny
because when people see my engine now, they just say "hey, isn't that a
2.1l KE engine?" and I laugh and say "no, it's a KV with cheaper spark plug
leads" :-)

Today I've put in the CQ a set of used but good 20vt spark plugs (you know,
the EXPEN$$$$$IVE ones!) and they seem to work pretty well, I'll keep you
informed if there's any gas mileage improvement to be expected...those
plugs (Bosch F5DPOR) have been used for years on tuned 10vt engines because
of their ability to deal well with high boost levels...we'll see if it's
overkill on a NA engine or not!

The point is to use pre-85 parts as from 85 on, Audi used the weird design
for coils and distributor caps ends....I still have to see if the same
applies to the '89 MB engine I'll be using for my turbo transplant this
summer...hey 250 ponies with EFI, here I come!! :-)

HTH,

Mihnea
