ECUs and LEDs

I'm at my wit's end tyring to diagnose a DTC/power loss problem in my '95 90Q and
signs are pointing to the possibility of a bad ECU. Does anyone know how common it
is for these things to go south on this model? More importantly, can anyone suggest
a way to possibly test the ECU to try and rule it in/out as a cause first? I'm in
Boulder, CO so if anyone around has one they'd be willing to swap out for 1/2 hour
sometime I'd really like to give that a shot. I'll try to pull mine and get the
number off of it soon.
My one other thought is that there's a malfunction in the EGR system. I just
replaced the EGR valve, though, and the solenoid checks out OK electrically. I'd
like to maybe hook up a vacuum gauge and test it dynamically, though. Is there a
way of knowing when the solenoid SHOULD open and provide vacuum or some other way of
testing?
Lastly, I just got some eurolights from Blau that I'm eager to get in. The one
problem is that the 'citylights' replace the turn signals that were there. My best
thought is to try to mount an amber turn signal bulb in the citylight housing to
regain the use of my turn signals with a minimal amount of rewiring. Though they're
expensive, LED bulbs seem like they might be a good option since they come in a
variety of colors and, theoretically at least, never burn out or need replacing.
Any BTDTs?
Thanks,
Joel
