Speaking of speeding tickets...
How about 2 humorous personal experiences:
1)
I used to own a 1965 Beetle (my 1st car), which I had souped a bit up.
Updated fenders, hood, boot, etc. I also had replaced the original
cylinders, pistons, cams, crank, etc., turning the 1200cc block into a
1600cc engine, but keeing the block #'s original.
Flying down a long hill, with a tail wind, at about 155KpH (*almost* 100
MpH), the highway patrol pulled me over, indicating the clocked speed of
153KpH.
Now, you must understand that in a '65, the speedo only goes to 110 or
120KpH. I thanked the officer for his vote of confidence in the old girl,
and proceeded to point out that it was a '65, with a 1200cc engine, and
asked that he please check all the #'s.
He wrote me a "conditional" ticket, pending investigation. 2 weeks later I
received a letter from the police, voiding the ticket, on the grounds that
the equipment used must have had a defect, since there was no way the car
could have been travelling at that speed.
2)
An aquaintance of mine was stoped doing 198KpH in his Opel Manta II. The
officer walked up next to the car, and asked to see his pilot's licence.
It just so happened that my friend *was* a pilot, so out came his license
for the officer to study, which he did for several minutes, after which he
handed it back to my friend, saying: "Next time, please fly at a higher
altitude, or much slower", and walked back to the cruiser and took off.
