Battery light

The battery light in my '89 100Q has been acting up.  It comes on about 3 
minutes after I start the car, and stays on.  It will occasionally stay off. 
  The amp gauge stays around 13.8-14 volts, and the battery is new.  I never 
have any problems with the car starting or surging accessories (except the 
speedo, but I think that's a separate problem).  Any ideas?
