Audi Tradition in 2002

The history of Audi and motorsport

Audi Tradition has plenty planned for the current year. As the centre
of competence for all historical requirements within the Audi Group,
it will be present at around 30 exhibitions and events in Germany and
abroad. For Thomas Frank, Head of Audi Tradition, the year's
highlights will be the company's appearance at the Techno Classica in
Essen, the historical motorcycle race "Donauring 2002" in Ingolstadt
and its participation in the "Festival of Speed" at Goodwood in Great
Britain

The Audi Tradition stand at the Techno Classica, Europe's biggest
classic vehicle show (from 4 to 7 April 2002) will focus on the
subject of "Spirit of Optimism". With a display of cars and
motorcycles from the 1950s and 1960s, Audi Tradition, together with
eight historical clubs, will hark back to the age of the economic
boom and new mobility. On show will be the dreams of motor
enthusiasts from this era. These will include a DKW Hummel and a DKW
Hobby scooter, a DKW 3=6 Sonderklasse F 91 Coupé from 1954, an Auto
Union 1000 Coupé de Luxe from 1958, an NSU Prinz II (30) from 1962
and, from 1972, an NSU Prinz 4 and NSU Prinz 1000.

Genuine motorcycle rarities will be lining up at the start of the
Donauring race on the 1.6 kilometre city circuit in Ingolstadt on 4
and 5 May 2002. As in 1999 and 2000, Audi is the principal sponsor of
this historical event. As well as special laps by DKW and NSU racing
motorcycles, a special attraction awaits spectators: the appearance
of two legendary racing cars from Audi's past, the Auto Union 16-
cylinder Type C from 1936 and the NSU 6/60 supercharged racing car
from 1926.

Another classic racing event is the "Festival of Speed", held at the
Earl of March's country estate in Goodwood (on 13 and 14 July 2002).
The motto of this supreme automotive event will be "On the limits - a
history of heroes". Audi will be participating with the Auto Union 16-
cylinder Type C, the R8 Le Mans racing car from 2000 and the Audi
quattro S1 Pikes Peak.

In the field of research and publications, Audi Tradition will be
publishing the third volume of the book "Im Zeichen der Vier Ringe",
which documents the history of Audi, at the end of 2002. This will
cover the period 1965-2000. In addition, a new series of publications
dealing with various historical topics is being brought out. It will
start with a detailed presentation of the history of the Audi logo.

The long-awaited museum catalogue will be presented this year for the
museum mobile at the Audi Forum Ingolstadt. A media-based museum tour
to provide visitors with optimum support is also being planned. Ten
newly restored motorcycles and bicycles from the group's past will
soon be a new attraction in the museum mobile. In addition, a special
exhibition from the start of March until mid-April will show cars
from the quattro era.

Last year Audi Tradition participated in around 50 events in Europe
and the USA, recalling the historic role that the group's predecessor
companies played in international car manufacturing. The four rings
of the Audi badge symbolise the brands Audi, DKW, Horch and Wanderer
which, having combined to form Auto Union, merged with NSU in 1969.
AUDI AG was formed from Audi NSU Auto Union AG in 1985. Together with
the two traditional companies Auto Union GmbH and NSU GmbH, Audi
Tradition nurtures and presents the deep and diverse history of Audi.
The museum mobile at the Audi Forum Ingolstadt is open from Monday to
Sunday, from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Audi is an international developer and manufacturer of high-quality
cars. In 2001 the company sold more than 725,000 Audi models. The
revenue of the Audi Group totalled around EUR 22 billion. The Audi
Group currently has more than 50,000 employees.
