Why are my window switches staying on?

I had, now have back again, an 85 5KT that is doing the same thing. I figured 
that it must be the infamous door jam type 44 problem, and spent 2 afternoons 
in there splicing wires to no avail. I finally gave up and got rid of the 
car. So I thought. The guy couldn't pay me, it was stolen (I had liability 
only on it), has been recovered, and is coming back to me. Since the rack now 
leaks, and the tranny leaks like a sieve, I will be dumping the thing for 
whatever someone will give for it. 
I never did figure it out. I just have got to be more careful who I deal with.
